Junior Khanye Suggests Potential Top Striker From Kaizer Chiefs
Ex-Kaizer Chiefs winger Junior Khanye thinks Wandile Duba can be a star for Amakhosi, but he says the young forward needs to be consistent if he wants to reach his full potential.
Duba gained notoriety after Tuesday's Carling Knockout Cup first-round Chiefs 3-0 triumph over TS Galaxy at FNB Stadium. The Soweto giants, who put on a remarkable show to go ahead in the competition, were able to take heart from the outcome.
Khanye thought highly of Duba's performance, which the forward may have had a significant impact on the outcome of the match. Even though the youngster has talent, the ex-Chiefs player thinks Duba can still do better if he wants to be a main threat for the team up front.
"He has his moments and on-field performances, but he needs to be more consistent if he wants to be a top striker for Chiefs," Khanye remarked.
Duba is continuing to build his career at one of the biggest football clubs in South Africa, and his evaluation shows both the opportunity and the difficulty he faces.
There is continual pressure on attacking players to perform for a Kaizer Chiefs team with their history and expectations. Goals, creativity, and performances that put the club in a position to compete for hardware are what fans want to see. Duba showed promise against TS Galaxy, which bodes well for his future contributions to those goals.
But winning games here and there isn't going to be enough to keep you on a team that competes in tournaments. In light of Khanye's remarks, Duba should aim to keep up his level of performance throughout the game, not just during his good performances.
The technical staff has provided the young attacker with opportunities, and he must seize them. He could solidify his spot on the team with consistent goal-scoring, smart movement, and good link-up play.
The Chiefs will be starting their Carling Knockout campaign on a high note after their win over TS Galaxy. When players put up performances that make it harder to secure a starting spot, the confidence boost from progressing in cup competitions can be substantial.
Duba has an obvious task ahead of him: continue to show that he can consistently make an impact, building on his previous display.
Many at Naturena think the kid has what it takes to make it big, and Khanye's support will only bolster their faith in him. However, the former winger still thinks Duba has what it takes to become a top striker, and consistency is the deciding factor.
