Former TS Galaxy Coach Linked With Young Africans Job After Mngqithi’s Departure
Tanzanian football giants Young Africans SC are preparing to appoint a new head coach following their decision to part ways with South African tactician Manqoba Mngqithi, with former Premier Soccer League coach Simo Dladla emerging as an important figure in the club’s immediate plans.
Mngqithi’s departure was confirmed on 24 October 2026 after a disappointing 0-0 draw against TRA United in the Tanzanian Premier League. The decision brought an abrupt end to his spell in Dar es Salaam, barely three and a half months after he was appointed.
The former Mamelodi Sundowns coach arrived at Yanga with an impressive reputation in South African football and was expected to maintain the club’s dominance in Tanzania while improving its chances of achieving success in continental competitions.
Although he guided the team to the Community Shield and secured qualification for the CAF Champions League group stages, recent domestic setbacks increased the pressure on his position. His departure has consequently left the club searching for a new permanent technical leader.
In the meantime, South African coach Simo Dladla has been entrusted with leading the team on an interim basis. His involvement has attracted attention, particularly because of his previous experience in South African football, where he worked with clubs including Richards Bay and Durban City.
Dladla’s position has become particularly interesting following Mngqithi’s exit. Rather than immediately bringing in an entirely new technical team, Yanga have an experienced South African coach already familiar with the club’s players, structures and expectations.
The 51-year-old was previously part of the technical team at TS Galaxy and has also gained experience in South African football through his involvement with Richards Bay and Durban City. His familiarity with the demands of the game in the region could prove valuable as Yanga consider their next move.
However, it is important to distinguish between his current interim responsibility and a permanent appointment. Yanga have confirmed that the process of finding a new head coach is underway, but have not officially announced that Dladla will receive the position on a permanent basis.
The Tanzanian giants are currently facing an important period in their campaign, with domestic silverware and continental ambitions remaining major priorities. Their supporters will expect the next coach to deliver consistent performances and restore the confidence that has been affected by recent results.
Dladla's opportunity to lead the team could therefore become an important audition if the club's management decides to consider an internal solution.
For South African football followers, the situation will also be worth monitoring, particularly given the growing presence of local coaches in Tanzania's top-flight football.
Whether Yanga decide to trust Dladla with the permanent position or pursue another experienced tactician remains to be seen. For now, the former PSL coach has an opportunity to demonstrate his capabilities while the club considers its next appointment.
