Arsenal secured a narrow 1-0 victory over Liverpool at Anfield to strengthen their Premier League title ambitions as they go top of the Table
Kai Havertz scored the decisive goal in the 16th minute, finishing from close range after Declan Rice delivered a low cross across the face of goal following a pass from Noni Madueke.
Liverpool responded strongly and dominated large spells of the first half but were unable to find an equaliser. Florian Wirtz came closest when his free-kick struck the crossbar in the 39th minute, while Alexis Mac Allister headed narrowly over three minutes later.
Alexander Isak also missed opportunities, firing wide in the 37th minute and again early in the second half after being played through by Wirtz.
Arsenal goalkeeper David Raya played a key role in preserving the lead, making an important save to deny Isak in the 28th minute.
Liverpool continued to press after the break, with Dominik Szoboszlai introduced in the 59th minute as the hosts searched for a way back into the contest.
However, Arsenal gradually threatened on the counter-attack. Martin Odegaard missed a good opportunity in the 69th minute before Alisson Becker produced a low save to deny Christos Tzolis five minutes later.
Despite sustained late pressure from Liverpool, Mikel Arteta’s side held on to claim an important away victory.
The result also puts an end to Arsenal’s long wait for a win at Anfield under Arteta, with the Gunners managing the closing stages to secure all three points.
