Orlando Pirates head coach Abdeslam Ouaddou has thrown his support behind Sebastian Pedersen, insisting that he is satisfied with the striker’s commitment as the young forward continues to work towards securing a regular starting position at the Soweto giants.
Ouaddou has made it clear that there are no concerns regarding Pedersen’s attitude or dedication, while suggesting that the striker is approaching the point where he could earn a place in the starting line-up.
“There’s no issues with Sebastian, I’m happy with his commitment,” Ouaddou said.
The Pirates coach acknowledged that Pedersen is not far from becoming a starter but stressed the importance of ensuring that the forward is adequately prepared before being entrusted with greater responsibility.
Rather than rushing the striker into the starting eleven, Ouaddou appears keen to give him sufficient time to adapt to the demands of playing for one of South Africa’s biggest football clubs.
One of the factors being considered is the challenge posed by altitude, which can significantly affect players who are not fully accustomed to competing in different conditions across the country.
South African football presents a demanding physical environment, with teams regularly travelling between venues situated at varying elevations. For players still adjusting to these conditions, the transition can require careful management.
Ouaddou’s comments suggest that Pedersen’s progress is being assessed beyond his performances on the training ground, with his overall readiness remaining an important consideration in the coaching staff’s decision-making process.
For Pirates supporters, the coach’s remarks offer encouragement regarding the striker’s prospects. His willingness to highlight Pedersen’s commitment while acknowledging his proximity to a starting role indicates that the forward remains firmly in contention for more opportunities.
However, being close to securing a starting position does not automatically guarantee immediate inclusion. Pedersen will still need to demonstrate that he can meet the tactical, physical and competitive demands expected at the club.
With Pirates continuing to pursue their ambitions across domestic competitions, competition for places remains intense. Every player must convince the technical team that they can make a meaningful contribution when called upon.
For Pedersen, the message from Ouaddou is encouraging: the commitment is there, and the opportunity to become a regular starter appears within reach.
The next step will be turning that progress into consistent performances and earning the trust required to establish himself as a key figure in the Pirates squad.
