Orlando Pirates coach Abdeslam Ouaddou has paid a glowing tribute to Deon Hotto, describing the Namibian international as an African football legend whose longevity, professionalism and commitment have made him a model for the next generation.

Hotto’s enduring influence at Pirates has clearly impressed Ouaddou, who believes the veteran winger’s career is a testament to the importance of discipline, dedication and taking care of one’s body.

“The longevity of Hotto, and the way that he is playing, the commitment, the passion, the professionalism of that player, it says a lot about the personality of Namibian players,” Ouaddou said.

The Pirates mentor went further, placing Hotto among the continent’s finest examples of what it means to build and sustain a successful football career.

“For me, this kind of player is a model. It’s a model on our continent,” he declared.

Beyond the trophies, appearances and assists, Ouaddou believes Hotto’s greatest contribution lies in the example he sets through his daily conduct, work ethic and approach to the game.

Reflecting on the demands of professional football, the coach highlighted the intelligence required to remain competitive over an extended period, pointing to Hotto’s ability to manage his body and maintain his standards.

“If you are able to play such a long time, it means that you are smart and you are clever about how you manage your body,” he explained.

For Namibia’s aspiring footballers, Hotto represents proof that talent alone is not enough. Consistency, self-belief and a relentless commitment to improvement are equally important ingredients for success.

“When we are professional, when we are committed, everything is possible in football, as long as you believe and you trust yourself and you work,” Ouaddou added.

It is a fitting tribute to a player whose contribution to Orlando Pirates extends beyond his performances on the pitch. Hotto’s experience, versatility and professionalism have made him an influential figure in the Buccaneers’ ranks.

At a time when football often celebrates the next big talent, Ouaddou’s words serve as a reminder to appreciate those who have sustained excellence over the years.

Deon Hotto has earned his flowers. For Pirates, for Namibia and for African football, his journey stands as a powerful example of what dedication, professionalism and longevity can achieve.
