Former Orlando Pirates star Relebohile Mofokeng delivered an encouraging performance as Belgian outfit Union Saint-Gilloise secured an impressive 2-1 victory over Spanish side Celta Vigo in the UEFA Europa League.

The 21-year-old South African international was handed a starting place and played an important role in helping his team claim a valuable victory against their Spanish opponents. Although Mofokeng did not find the back of the net, his technical ability, creativity and contribution to the team's attacking movements were evident throughout his time on the pitch.

Mofokeng particularly impressed with his passing accuracy and ability to create opportunities for his teammates. The former Pirates attacker registered three key passes, highlighting his vision and capacity to identify teammates in dangerous attacking positions.

His overall passing statistics were equally impressive. He completed 26 of his 29 attempted passes, achieving an outstanding 90 per cent accuracy. In the final third, his numbers were even better, completing 16 of 17 passes for an impressive 94 per cent success rate.

The youngster also completed both of his attempted layoffs and successfully delivered two progressive passes from three attempts. These statistics demonstrated his willingness to move the ball forward and help Union SG maintain attacking pressure.

In front of goal, Mofokeng registered two shots, although neither troubled the opposition goalkeeper. One attempt went off target, while the other was blocked by Celta Vigo's defence.

He recorded 42 touches before making way in the 86th minute. Despite his positive contribution, he received a match rating of 6.4 out of 10.

Nevertheless, his performance represents another encouraging moment for South African football, with Mofokeng continuing to gain valuable experience on the European stage.

Union Saint-Gilloise will hope the former Orlando Pirates star maintains his development and becomes an increasingly influential figure as their Europa League campaign progresses.
