Mamelodi Sundowns coach Steve Komphela's assistant coach, Steve Zwane, has expressed confidence in his team's preparations ahead of their challenging Carling Knockout quarter-final encounter against Stellenbosch FC.
Speaking ahead of the highly anticipated fixture, Zwane acknowledged that the match would present a difficult test, with Stellenbosch expected to provide strong opposition. He stressed the importance of maintaining consistency and building on the progress made by the team throughout the current campaign.
Zwane also reflected on the challenges Sundowns experienced last season, particularly the impact of losing important players, which affected the team's ability to maintain its momentum and develop a stable playing structure.
"Last season, losing key players dented that progress. Now, from game one up to this point, you see familiar faces," he said.
According to Zwane, having familiar players together from the beginning of the season has helped the team establish better understanding, improve coordination and maintain continuity in its performances.
The coach believes that squad stability can make a significant difference, particularly when competing in demanding knockout competitions where consistency, teamwork and individual quality are essential.
However, Sundowns will need to demonstrate their strength on the pitch against a Stellenbosch side that will be equally determined to secure a place in the semi-finals.
The Carling Knockout competition offers both teams an opportunity to strengthen their ambitions for silverware, making the quarter-final encounter an important fixture in their respective campaigns.
With the pressure of knockout football leaving little room for mistakes, Zwane and his technical team will be hoping that the familiarity within the squad translates into a convincing performance.
