Golden Arrows head coach Mandla Ncikazi has opened up about the club’s disappointing goal-scoring record this season, revealing statistics that highlight the reasons behind their struggles in the Betway Premiership.
Ncikazi acknowledged that his team has not been performing at the expected level in the attacking department, pointing to a significant decline in their attacking contributions compared to last season.
According to the Arrows coach, the numbers provide a clear picture of the challenges facing the team, particularly their inability to create enough attacking opportunities and convert them into goals.
Speaking about the situation, Ncikazi highlighted that Golden Arrows have played nine league matches but managed to score just three goals, a record that underlines their difficulties in front of goal.
"I'll give you the stats that I found, we have played nine games in the league, we have scored three goals, that is information. The touches in the attacking third have reduced from last season," Ncikazi explained.
His comments suggest that the problem goes beyond poor finishing, with the team also struggling to get into dangerous attacking positions regularly.
The reduction in touches in the attacking third indicates that Golden Arrows have found it difficult to sustain pressure on opposition defences and create the kind of opportunities that could improve their scoring record.
Ncikazi is now faced with the challenge of finding solutions to improve the team's attacking play as the season progresses. The coach will be expected to work on his players' movement, creativity and ability to penetrate opposition defensive lines.
With only three goals scored in nine league appearances, Golden Arrows must improve significantly if they hope to compete more consistently and avoid falling further behind their ambitions this season.
The statistics have provided Ncikazi with important information about what needs to change as he attempts to revive the team's attacking threat.
