Bafana Bafana head coach Pitso Mosimane has explained what he likes about attacker Siyanda Ndlovu, comparing the player's style to that of Thapelo Maseko.
Mosimane's assessment highlights his preference for direct wingers who are willing to take on defenders, create attacking opportunities and deliver dangerous balls into the penalty area.
The coach believes Ndlovu possesses qualities that fit the type of wide attacker he wants in his team. Rather than players who repeatedly slow down their movement or turn back when facing opponents, Mosimane favours wingers who attack defenders with confidence and purpose.
His comparison with Maseko suggests that he sees similarities in the way the two players approach their attacking responsibilities, particularly their willingness to move forward and create problems for opposing defences.
Explaining his preference, Mosimane praised Ndlovu's ability to operate in one-on-one situations, beat opponents and provide deliveries that can create scoring opportunities for teammates.
"Deliberate player, a little bit of a duplicate to Thapelo Maseko right. I like those wingers, you know. Some people like wingers who turn around and turn around. I like that. Go inside one v one, go behind and go past, bring the ball in the box, let's tap it in. And those are my kind of wingers."
The comments offer an insight into the attacking qualities Mosimane values when assessing players for his Bafana Bafana setup.
For Ndlovu, being compared to Maseko by the national team coach represents recognition of the qualities he brings to the attacking department.
Mosimane's remarks also underline the importance of directness, movement and the ability to beat defenders in his preferred style of play.
