Coach Miguel Cardoso of Mamelodi Sundowns is rooting for Brayan Leon to get back on track, telling the Colombian striker to stop placing undue pressure on himself to score goals and instead focus on contributing to the team's success.
After joining Sundowns from Independiente Medellín, a team in Colombia, in January of last year, Leon had an outstanding debut. The forward swiftly became a key offensive option for the Tshwane giants last season, contributing to their success with 15 goals and 2 assists in 26 games.
Unfortunately, the striker has not been able to replicate similar statistics this season, making only 13 appearances while netting three goals and assisting on another. Even though Leon's decreased production has drawn notice, Cardoso is confident in his potential to restore his self-assurance and improve his goal-scoring performance.
If a striker is too preoccupied with scoring, the Sundowns coach said, he or she may cause problems for themselves. He would rather Leon focus on his duties, put in the effort for his teammates, and have faith that scoring would be easy.
"A player who plays under pressure to score does not necessarily have to score," Cardoso remarked, adding that Brayan Leon would "certainly" discover the correct attitude, stability, and flexibility to play without pressure.
In addition to stressing the need of effort and cooperation, the Portuguese coach went on to say that Sundowns have several players that can score goals.
"He has to battle often. "Other players will score the goals we need if he does not fight hard, play for the team, and understands the behaviours," Cardoso continued.
Cardoso is pleased with the attack as a whole, even if he would like it if all of his strikers scored more often. More significant than any one player's stats, in his opinion, is Sundowns' overall performance in front of goal. Before focusing on the CAF Super Cup the week after this, Masandawana will play a league match this weekend against Durban City. The encounter against Durban City is their last pre-FIFA international break match, giving Leon one more chance to prove himself and help the squad win.
By praising his daughter's academic accomplishments, former Bafana Bafana striker Katlego Mphela has shown his followers a side of himself that is distinct from football.
On Tuesday, Mphela celebrated his first-born daughter's exceptional academic achievement on Instagram stories. At her school's award ceremony, he posted a picture of himself grinning with delight next to her. Apparently, she took home four big prizes during the ceremony, which made Mphela very happy. His heartfelt message said, "Congratulations, baby girl," showing his immense delight and affection. The snapshot captures a rare and touching family moment including the football star and his daughter, who are both smiling for the camera.
Beyond his on-field accomplishments, the former striker provided a personal moment with his statement, which showcased his joy in his daughter's hard work and success. As Sundowns get ready for their next matches, Mphela's party serves as a reminder that football stars also value non-sporting family milestones.
