Former Kaizer Chiefs Star Makes Fourth Consecutive UEFA Champions League Start

Former Kaizer Chiefs defender Aden McCarthy is continuing to build his reputation in European football after securing his fourth consecutive start in the UEFA Champions League for Azerbaijani side Sabah FK.

The South African youngster has been given another opportunity to prove his quality on the European stage as Sabah FK prepare to take on Norwegian outfit Viking FK. The encounter is scheduled to take place in Norway, with kick-off set for 22:00 South African time.

McCarthy's continued inclusion in the starting lineup reflects the trust his coach has placed in him. Earning four consecutive starts in a major European competition is a significant achievement, particularly for a young defender who is still establishing himself outside South Africa.

The former Kaizer Chiefs player has also impressed with his contributions during the competition. His numbers from his first three appearances highlight the impact he has made both defensively and offensively.

McCarthy has featured in three matches, starting every game and completing a total of 270 minutes. He has therefore played every minute of those encounters, underlining his growing importance to Sabah FK's defensive setup.

One of the standout moments of his Champions League campaign so far came when he scored against German giants Borussia Dortmund. The defender found the net with a powerful header, showing that he can also provide an attacking threat when his team needs it.

His distribution has also been impressive, with the South African recording a passing accuracy of 92 per cent after completing 105 passes. The statistics demonstrate his composure on the ball and his ability to help his team build attacks from the back.

At the defensive end, McCarthy has made 15 ball recoveries, completed nine clearances and registered five tackles. These figures highlight his defensive commitment, work rate and willingness to protect his team's backline against opposition attacks.

He has also maintained discipline, receiving only one yellow card and avoiding a red card throughout his appearances in the competition.

With Sabah FK preparing for their clash against Viking FK, McCarthy will be looking to continue his impressive performances and produce another dependable display.

Securing a fourth consecutive start marks another important step in the young defender's developing career. His progress in European football will be encouraging for South African supporters, especially given his previous association with Kaizer Chiefs.

A convincing performance in Norway could further strengthen his place in the team and allow him to continue building his reputation on the European stage.
