Kaizer Chiefs defender Inacio Miguel is facing increased pressure following his dismissal during the Soweto Derby against Orlando Pirates, with the Angolan international now at risk of further disciplinary action if he fails to improve his conduct when he returns to the pitch.
Miguel was sent off during Kaizer Chiefs' 2-1 defeat to Orlando Pirates at FNB Stadium on Saturday, October 31, 2026. The 30-year-old received his second yellow card during stoppage time, leaving Amakhosi to finish the match without one of their key defensive players.
His dismissal has created another challenge for head coach Fernando da Cruz, who must now find a suitable replacement as Chiefs attempt to recover from their disappointing derby defeat. Miguel will miss the club's next two matches, starting with Sunday's Carling Knockout Cup quarter-final against Siwelele FC, followed by their Betway Premiership fixture against Chippa United.
The defender's disciplinary situation is becoming increasingly concerning, as he has already collected three yellow cards in domestic competitions this season. This means he will need to be particularly careful when he returns, as another booking could put him closer to an additional suspension.
Miguel's absence could also affect Chiefs' defensive stability, especially as the technical team continues searching for consistency at the back. The availability of Rushwin Dortley offers Da Cruz another option, although replacing Miguel's experience and presence in central defence will not be straightforward.
Since arriving at Naturena from Petro de Luanda in July 2024, Miguel has developed into an important member of the Chiefs squad. His performances have made him a regular figure in the team's defensive setup, but his disciplinary record is now raising questions about his reliability.
Meanwhile, uncertainty also surrounds his long-term future at the club. Reports indicate that discussions over a possible contract extension are ongoing, with his current agreement expected to expire in June 2027.
Miguel will therefore need to demonstrate greater discipline when he returns, as further suspensions could affect his playing time and potentially complicate his future at Kaizer Chiefs.
