Former Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirates winger William Twala has returned to South Africa in search of a new club as he looks to continue his professional football career following several seasons playing abroad. The 36-year-old attacker is currently a free agent and is hoping to secure an opportunity in the domestic game ahead of the next stage of his career.
Twala, who was born in Soweto, is an experienced figure in South African football, having represented several prominent clubs during his career. His previous teams include Orlando Pirates, Kaizer Chiefs, Chippa United, Golden Arrows and Maritzburg United. His appearances for both Soweto giants remain among the notable achievements of his football journey, considering the intense rivalry between the two clubs.
The experienced winger established himself in the local game before deciding to pursue opportunities outside South Africa. His overseas journey saw him feature for Erbil SC in Iraq, Chittagong Abahani in Bangladesh and spend time playing in India. These experiences exposed him to different football environments and playing styles while allowing him to maintain his professional career beyond South African borders.
Now back home, Twala is hoping to find a club willing to give him another opportunity to compete. Despite being 36, the former Bafana Bafana international believes he can still contribute to a team's attacking ambitions through his experience, versatility and understanding of the domestic game.
The veteran winger is reportedly open to considering offers from clubs competing in both the Betway Premiership and the Motsepe Foundation Championship. His priority is finding a suitable environment where he can receive regular playing opportunities rather than limiting his options to a particular division.
Although his age could influence the decisions of some clubs, his experience at the highest level of South African football could make him an attractive option for teams looking to strengthen their squads.
For now, no club has officially confirmed an agreement with Twala, who remains available as a free agent. His next destination is expected to become clearer as clubs assess their recruitment options.
