Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano has provided an update on Fermin Lopez's future at Barcelona amid reported interest from Chelsea and Manchester United.
According to a report by FootballTransfers on Saturday, 31 October 2026, Romano has dismissed suggestions that the Spanish midfielder could move to the Premier League, insisting that Barcelona consider him an untouchable member of their squad.
The 23-year-old has established himself as an important attacking player for the Spanish champions, recording 13 goals and 17 assists last season. He has continued his impressive form this campaign, contributing five goals and four assists.
Despite his attacking productivity, Lopez has not always been an automatic starter because of the competition for places at Barcelona.
Chelsea previously attempted to sign the midfielder with a reported €40 million offer, but the Spanish club rejected the proposal.
Lopez also showed no desire to leave Stamford Bridge's potential destination, instead committing his future to Barcelona with a contract running until 2031.
Recent reports have suggested that Chelsea have renewed their interest and could consider making a substantial offer for the midfielder.
Manchester United have also emerged as potential suitors after reportedly making enquiries about his availability during their recent Champions League trip to face Atletico Madrid.
However, Romano has now played down the possibility of a transfer, explaining that Barcelona have no intention of allowing the midfielder to leave.
Speaking in a video posted on his X account, the Italian journalist said: "Despite reports over the recent days, Fermin Lopez is absolutely untouchable for Barcelona."
Romano added: "All the stories regarding a potential Premier League switch for Fermin Lopez are being played down by Barca and also those close to the player. Fermin is very happy at Barcelona, he signed a new deal at the club a few months ago."
He further explained that sporting director Deco considers Lopez an important part of Barcelona's present and future plans.
Romano concluded by making Barcelona's position clear, stating: "No change, no Premier League switch planned for Fermin Lopez. Everything is under control. Fermin Lopez is 100% staying at Barcelona."
