Sekhukhune United coach Papi Zothwane has admitted that his team faces a difficult challenge when they meet Orlando Pirates in the Carling Knockout Cup quarter-finals.
The Buccaneers have already beaten Babina Noko three times this season, and the coach knows his players must produce an exceptional performance to change that record.
According to EWN on Friday, November 6, 2026, Zothwane believes his players must approach the upcoming encounter with confidence despite their disappointing previous results against the Soweto giants.
The two teams are scheduled to meet on Saturday, November 7, at Orlando Amstel Arena, with a place in the semi-finals at stake.
The history between these sides makes the fixture particularly interesting. Orlando Pirates have defeated Sekhukhune three times already this season, winning 1-0 in the first leg of the MTN8 semi-final, 2-0 in their league encounter and 3-0 in the return leg of the MTN8 semi-final.
Those results mean Pirates have scored six goals without conceding against Sekhukhune in their three previous meetings. However, Zothwane does not want his players to become discouraged by what happened in those encounters.
Speaking about the challenge, the Sekhukhune coach explained that previous results should not determine the outcome of another match.
"You can’t dwell on the past based on what happened in our past results against Orlando Pirates. It’s a new game. Our job as coaches is to give the players confidence, give them the structure and make them aware of the strengths and weaknesses of Pirates," Zothwane said.
His comments suggest that the technical team understands the importance of preparing differently this time. Sekhukhune cannot afford to approach the match with the same mistakes that contributed to their previous defeats.
Zothwane also acknowledged that Pirates are a difficult opponent, particularly when playing in front of their home supporters. The atmosphere at Orlando Stadium could make the assignment even more demanding for the visiting team.
Nevertheless, Babina Noko have reasons to believe they can compete. Zothwane pointed to the team's recent performances, explaining that they have been doing well over their previous six matches.
He also indicated that Sekhukhune would make adjustments to their approach rather than simply repeat the tactics used in the previous encounters.
One important objective will be to score first and put pressure on the defending champions.
For Orlando Pirates, the challenge will be maintaining their impressive record while avoiding complacency. The Buccaneers are also determined to progress in a competition they won last season.
With both teams fighting for a semi-final place, Saturday's encounter promises another important chapter in this growing rivalry.
