The Betway Premiership burst into life over the weekend with a spectacular total of 21 goals across eight matches — and none carried more weight than Orlando Pirates’ 2–1 Soweto Derby victory over Kaizer Chiefs at FNB Stadium. Yanela Mbuthuma opened the scoring for the Buccaneers before Pule Mmodi equalised for Amakhosi, but Tshepang Moremi struck the decisive winner to hand coach Abdeslam Ouaddou his seventh consecutive league triumph.

Title rivals Mamelodi Sundowns immediately responded with a dominant 4–1 thrashing of Durban City at Loftus Versfeld, moving back to the summit — one point above Pirates but crucially with a game in hand. Thabang Matuludi bagged a brace, with Iqraam Rayners and Antonio van Wyk also on target.

Elsewhere, AmaZulu kept up their strong run under Arthur Zwane with a 1–0 win over Golden Arrows, while Milford FC continued their fine start by edging Sekhukhune United by the same scoreline. Marumo Gallants celebrated their first league victory under new coach Ronnie Kananelo, beating Siwelele FC 3–2 in a thriller, Samkele Sihlali scoring twice. Kruger United defeated Richards Bay 3–1, and Chippa United stunned Stellenbosch FC 2–0 away. Polokwane City and TS Galaxy shared the only goalless draw of the round.

The race at both ends of the table is heating up — and the goals keep coming.
