Kaizer Chiefs forward Wandile Duba has written his name into the club's history books after producing a sensational hat trick in Amakhosi's 3-0 victory over TS Galaxy in the Carling Knockout Cup Round of 16.
The 22-year-old academy graduate delivered an outstanding performance, scoring all three goals to send Chiefs comfortably into the quarterfinals while achieving several personal and historical milestones. His impressive display also strengthened his position as one of the team's most influential attacking players this season.
Duba's achievement makes him the latest addition to an exclusive list of Kaizer Chiefs players who have scored hat tricks since the 1996/97 season. The club now has 24 players who have achieved the feat during that period, with Duba becoming the 19th Amakhosi player to score a hat trick in all Premier Soccer League competitions.
More significantly, he has become the first Kaizer Chiefs player to score a hat trick in the Carling Knockout Cup, making his performance against TS Galaxy particularly memorable.
His goals have also ended a lengthy wait for a Chiefs hat trick. The club's previous treble came through Caleb-Bonfils Bimenyimana, who scored three penalties in a 3-1 league victory over Stellenbosch FC.
Duba's latest contribution takes his season tally to six goals in seven appearances across all competitions, making him Chiefs' leading goalscorer this campaign. His growing confidence and attacking influence have provided Fernando Da Cruz with another encouraging option in the final third.
Historically, Marks Maponyane also scored a memorable hat trick against Durban City in a knockout competition in 1987. However, the club's record remains with the late Patrick "Ace" Ntsoelengoe, who registered 14 hat tricks across all competitions.
Chiefs will now turn their attention to their Carling Knockout Cup quarterfinal against Siwelele FC on November 7 or 8. Duba will be hoping to maintain his impressive scoring form as Amakhosi continue their pursuit of silverware this season.
