Lorch's Libya Nightmare Deepens As Amakhosi Link Sparks Huge Transfer Talk

Thembinkosi Lorch’s Libya Nightmare Deepens As Kaizer Chiefs Transfer Rumours Resurface

Thembinkosi Lorch’s future in Libya remains uncertain, with the former Orlando Pirates and Mamelodi Sundowns star reportedly facing a possible contract separation from Al-Ittihad Tripoli amid renewed speculation linking him with Kaizer Chiefs.

South African football supporters are closely monitoring the situation surrounding Thembinkosi Lorch as the experienced attacker continues to face an uncertain future in North Africa.

The 33-year-old forward has reportedly fallen outside Al-Ittihad Tripoli’s first-team plans after the club encountered challenges involving its foreign-player registration quota. This development has raised questions about whether Lorch will remain in Libya or seek a fresh opportunity elsewhere.

According to reports published in October, Al-Ittihad coach Faouzi Benzarti decided not to include the South African international in his plans for the 2026/27 campaign. The club’s foreign-player limit has reportedly contributed to the difficult situation facing the former Orlando Pirates star.

Lorch has struggled to establish himself at the Libyan giants since joining from Moroccan outfit Wydad Athletic Club. His reported record of seven appearances, one goal and one assist highlights a challenging spell that has not unfolded as many South African supporters anticipated.

With Al-Ittihad reportedly having seven foreign players occupying the available registration places, Lorch could face a lengthy period without competitive football unless a suitable solution is reached.

The next major opportunity for a registration change is expected to come during the January 2027 transfer window. However, reports have suggested that the player and club are exploring the possibility of ending their relationship before then.

Reports from October indicated that Lorch had been offered a possible loan arrangement but was not interested in that option.

The discussions reportedly shifted towards a mutual separation, which could allow the attacker to become a free agent and negotiate with another club.

Should the parties reach an agreement to terminate his contract, Lorch would have greater flexibility to consider his next destination without waiting for the January registration window.

However, it is important to note that a mutual separation has not been officially confirmed, and the player's contractual situation remains subject to further developments.

Lorch previously enjoyed a successful period at Wydad, where he rediscovered his attacking form and attracted renewed attention from clubs in the region.

His departure from Morocco for Libya was expected to provide another opportunity to compete at a high level, but the current circumstances have placed his immediate future in doubt.

Meanwhile, speculation linking Lorch with Kaizer Chiefs has resurfaced, giving Amakhosi supporters another reason to follow his situation closely.

Reports published on 2 November linked the former Orlando Pirates and Mamelodi Sundowns attacker with a possible move to Naturena, alongside Bafana Bafana winger Elias Mokwana.

The prospect of Lorch returning to the Betway Premiership has generated interest because of his experience, creativity and ability to operate in several attacking positions.

For Chiefs, a player of Lorch’s quality could potentially provide additional options in the final third, particularly if the club is looking to strengthen its attacking department.

However, the reports have not established that a transfer agreement has been reached.

There has been no official announcement confirming that Lorch has signed for Kaizer Chiefs, while his situation at Al-Ittihad remains unresolved.

The latest speculation should therefore be treated cautiously until the club or the player provides confirmation.

A Crucial Decision Ahead

Lorch’s next career decision could prove significant as he approaches the later stages of his professional playing career.

A return to South Africa would place him back in familiar surroundings, where his previous achievements with Orlando Pirates and Mamelodi Sundowns remain part of his footballing reputation.

At the same time, opportunities in North Africa could remain available if he secures his departure from Al-Ittihad and receives suitable offers.

For now, the immediate priority appears to be resolving his contractual situation and finding a pathway back to regular football.
