Chiefs Coach Makes Bold Claim About PSL Title Race Despite Falling 12 Points Behind

Kaizer Chiefs head coach Fernando Da Cruz has made it clear that his team must continue believing in their Betway Premiership title chances, despite trailing league leaders Mamelodi Sundowns by 12 points.

According to a report by iDiski Times on Sunday, November 1, 2026, Da Cruz believes Amakhosi must remain confident, maintain their determination and continue working towards improving their position in the league standings.

The Soweto-based club have endured an inconsistent season, dropping valuable points on several occasions, particularly through draws. Their inability to secure victories regularly has made their title challenge increasingly difficult, allowing their rivals to establish a considerable advantage at the top of the table.

Meanwhile, Mamelodi Sundowns have maintained an impressive pace in the competition, leaving Chiefs with plenty of work to do as they attempt to close the gap and become genuine contenders for the championship.

Despite the challenging circumstances, Da Cruz is not ready to accept that his team's title ambitions are over. The French tactician wants his players to remain focused, approach every remaining fixture with the right mentality and fight for maximum points whenever they take to the pitch.

His message demonstrates that Chiefs have no intention of abandoning their ambitions simply because they are currently 12 points behind the league leaders.

For a club with the stature and history of Kaizer Chiefs, challenging for major honours remains a major priority. The club's supporters have been eager to see Amakhosi return to the summit of South African football after several disappointing seasons, making a potential league triumph an important achievement.

However, Da Cruz and his players face a difficult task if they are to turn their ambitions into reality. They will need to put together a consistent sequence of positive results to reduce the deficit and put pressure on Sundowns and the other teams competing near the top of the standings.

Any further dropped points could make their position even more complicated, meaning every remaining league encounter will be crucial to their ambitions.

Chiefs will also need to improve their overall performances, particularly in attack and defence, if they hope to translate their determination into positive results. Although the team has produced some encouraging displays this season, maintaining consistency remains one of their biggest challenges.

Da Cruz's latest comments will offer encouragement to supporters who still believe Amakhosi can produce a strong finish to the campaign and make their presence felt in the title race.

Although the 12-point difference represents a significant obstacle, the Chiefs coach is determined to keep his squad motivated and prevent the players from losing belief in their ability to compete for the championship.
