Marumo Gallants head coach Ronnie Kanalelo has spoken about the emotions he experienced after returning to Mamelodi Sundowns, a club that played a significant role in his professional football career.
Kanalelo admitted that stepping back into the Tshwane giants' environment brought back memories of his playing days, particularly because Sundowns was the only professional club he represented as a footballer.
The coach spent almost nine years with the Brazilians after joining the club in 1997. His time at Chloorkop eventually came to an end in early 2006, marking the conclusion of an important chapter in his career.
Reflecting on the experience, Kanalelo acknowledged that his lengthy association with Sundowns had created a lasting emotional connection that remains strong despite his current responsibilities at Gallants.
"I'm emotional about it. I only had one professional team in my career. I spent a lot of time here, coming in 1997, I left here in the beginning of 2006," he said.
His comments underline the lasting influence Sundowns had on his development as a professional footballer.
Although he has since transitioned into coaching and now leads Marumo Gallants, Kanalelo clearly maintains fond memories of his time at the club.
His return was therefore more than an ordinary football occasion, offering an opportunity to reconnect with an institution that shaped a significant part of his football journey.
