ProSport International CEO Mike Makaab has provided an explanation for why midfielder Sibande decided to end his stay in Egypt and return home earlier than expected.
According to Makaab, the player's decision was influenced by his personal experience in the North African country rather than any disagreement or problems with his Egyptian club. Although the move initially presented an opportunity to continue his football career abroad, Sibande reportedly struggled to settle into his new surroundings.
Speaking to KickOff, Makaab explained that the midfielder was uncomfortable with the environment and eventually requested to return home.
“In all honesty, he wasn’t happy in Egypt and that happens sometimes. When I say not happy, nothing to do with the club. He just didn’t feel comfortable in the environment and he requested a move back,” Makaab, CEO of ProSport International, told KickOff.
His comments suggest that the decision was not connected to disagreements with the club's management, coaching staff or other football-related issues. Instead, the player's difficulty adjusting to life in a different country appears to have been the major factor behind his departure.
Moving abroad can be a significant challenge for professional footballers, particularly when they have to adapt to unfamiliar surroundings, different cultures and lifestyles. While some players settle quickly into their new environments, others require more time to feel comfortable and establish themselves away from home.
Sibande's situation highlights how important personal comfort can be when making decisions about a football career. Even when a player has an opportunity to compete outside his home country, adjusting to the new environment remains an important part of the experience.
Makaab's clarification also helps address possible speculation surrounding the circumstances of the midfielder's departure. By separating the player's personal dissatisfaction from the club itself, he made it clear that there was no reported issue with the Egyptian side.
For now, Sibande's return marks the end of his Egyptian adventure, with attention likely to turn towards his next career move and the opportunities available to him. His experience serves as another reminder that success in football is not determined by sporting opportunities alone, as a player's ability to adapt to life outside the pitch can also influence important career decisions.
