Manager’s Fury: “I Could Have Substituted EIGHT Players at Half-Time” as Title Contenders Surrender Five Goals

RENNES manager Franck Haise expressed his frustration towards his players following a crushing 5-2 defeat to Nice, stating he “could have substituted eight players at half time”.

The French team faced a shocking loss on the south coast as Elye Wahi scored a hat-trick, marking Rennes’ third defeat of the season.

The away side initially equalized Wahi’s early goal through a penalty, with Sebastian Szymanski making it 1-1.

However, Nice responded with three consecutive goals from Wahi, Jonathan Clauss, and Mohamed Amoura, before Boulaye Dia managed to score one back for Rennes.

There was still time for Wahi to complete his hat-trick, scoring the fifth for his team and sealing a disastrous match for Rennes.

Haise returned to his former club almost a year after being dismissed, but the reunion was far from pleasant.

Haise did not hold back in his criticism after witnessing the end of Rennes’ strong start to the Ligue 1 season.

He made substitutions of Przemylsaw Frankowski and Adrien Thomasson at halftime, noting that his team’s performance was so poor he could have opted for EIGHT changes.

He stated post-match: “We’ve conceded 13 goals in our last three away matches, changing our system, sometimes even changing players… But not changing our discipline or our attitude in certain duels.

“At half-time, I took off two players – Frankowski and Thomasson – but I could have taken off eight.”

“Who really stood out in the first half? Almost no one.”

Rennes had been performing well in Ligue 1 with five wins, one draw, and three losses from their initial nine games.

They remain in third place, just four points behind league leaders Paris Saint-Germain.

Rennes began the season strongly, winning three of their first four matches, but faced a 4-0 defeat against Lyon.

They also endured a narrow 4-3 loss to Liam Rosenior’s Paris FC, who scored a last-minute penalty earlier this month.

Rennes had concluded the previous season in sixth place—just two points shy of the Champions League spots.

This notable finish earned them a place in the Europa League, where they recently contested a 2-2 draw against Italian powerhouse Juventus.
