Several European clubs are reportedly monitoring South African defender Olwethu Makhanya following his impressive start to life at Scottish giants Rangers.
The Bafana Bafana centre-back joined The Gers at the beginning of the season from Major League Soccer outfit Philadelphia Union and has quickly made his mark.
Olwethu Makhanya wasted little time establishing himself as a regular in the starting XI, earning recognition for his consistency, defensive strength and reliability at the back.
His impressive performances were rewarded in September when he was named William Hill Premiership Player of the Month.
Rangers won all four of their league matches during that period, conceding just one goal – with Olwethu Makhanya playing a key role in their defensive success.
Brentford: The English Premier League side has reportedly sent scouts to watch Olwethu Makhanya in action for Rangers as they assess his potential.
Sunderland: Another Premier League outfit believed to be tracking the defender is Sunderland. The club is reportedly looking to reinforce its defensive options.
Sevilla: Reports from Spain suggest the La Liga club admires Makhanya’s versatility. They have been following his development ahead of a possible move in the second half of the season.
Bologna: The Serie A outfit is also reportedly keeping tabs on the former Stellenbosch FC defender. However, there have been no formal enquiries or offers at this stage.
