Currently, Usuthu sits in third place in the Betway Premiership, amassing 19 points from eight matches, with only one defeat—a hard-fought match against African champions Mamelodi Sundowns.
Fueled by a remarkable tactical synergy and the outstanding performance of leading striker Thando Ngwenya, AmaZulu’s record of six victories in eight matches is unprecedented. This achievement marks the best start to a league season in the club’s history, surpassing their memorable 2020/21 season when they finished as runners-up under the guidance of legendary striker Benni McCarthy.
The club’s impressive momentum was celebrated on Friday at Moses Mabhida Stadium, where Usuthu officially announced Amstel Lager as their new official beer partner, joining treble winners Orlando Pirates in this partnership with the global brand.
“One thing people may not realize is that our greatest strength as the AmaZulu team lies in our prayer. We pray like nobody’s business,” Zwane stated ahead of Saturday’s crucial Durban Derby against Golden Arrows at Princess Magogo Stadium.
The derby is set to commence shortly after the conclusion of the weekend’s other major match—the Soweto Derby involving Orlando Pirates and Kaizer Chiefs at FNB Stadium.
Zwane uniquely has the honor of having played for both Soweto giants during his career.
“We bond strongly—not only as players and technical staff but also with our supporters,” Zwane added.
“Everywhere we go, like last week in Mbombela Stadium against Kruger United in the Carling Knockout [where we won], the emotional toll was significant, and the players could feel it. However, with our supporters cheering us on, we gained that extra motivation and emerged victorious. This demonstrates how far we have progressed as a club.
“It’s rare to find a club president who takes the initiative to call you as ours does; we are truly enjoying this journey. But the main driving force behind us at the moment is our commitment to prayer. It’s been so empowering that we feel invincible.
“We aim to elevate this club to new heights, and we hope that God grants us that opportunity.”
