According to a report by Football Transfer on Saturday October 24, 2026, Eintracht Frankfurt manager Adi Hutter has warned Can Uzun that his career will depend on how well he works for the team as Arsenal continue to be linked with the young forward.
The 20-year-old Turkey international has started the season strong, scoring four goals and three assists after six matches, but most of his contributions came in just two games as he helped produce five goals in an 11-0 win over lower-league St. Tonis in the DFB-Pokal and scored twice against Mainz.
Uzun joined Eintracht Frankfurt in 2024 having scored 16 goals in the 2. Bundesliga as a teenager, and he also started the 2025/26 campaign well, scoring in five successive Bundesliga matches, but he lost form.
Following a changed in Frankfurt's coaching staff, he struggled to find a regular spot in the team and he was also publicly criticised by former manager Albert Riera before the Spaniard was sacked after a short spell in charge.
It seems history is repeating itself for Uzun with Hutter, who he has played under for a large part of this season.
Having started every game as the Austrian manager took charge, he was left on the bench against Koln last Friday and did not come on during Frankfurt's 1-0 win over the visitors.
Speaking at a press conference, the manager made it clear that he needed the forward to improve his team play.
"The sooner Can understands that football is also a team sport where he can contribute his skills, the greater the career he will have," Hutter said.
"If he doesn't realise this, he might end up being his own worst enemy," the manager added, "I also expect consistency, and that he shows the abilities he has during the week [in training] and in the games."
It was similar to what former boss Riera said in April when he said Uzun needed to contribute with and without the ball to earn his place.
The main issue appears to be Uzun's defensive work, although he is a talented attacker, he is not a traditional centre-forward and often plays his best as a supporting striker or a No.10, and Hutter has used him more on the left wing this season which has probably affected his attacking output by keeping him away from goal.
The report highlighted that while modern attackers are expected to contribute defensively, Uzun will need to improve there if he wants to reach the next level.
Arsenal were linked with the Turkish youngster this week, with the club apparently contacting his agency.
Also representing Club Brugge forward Nicolo Tresoldi who has been identified as a target for the Gunners, the agency is also said to have been approached by Frankfurt.
Galatasaray were interested in him during the summer transfer window, but they could not justify paying such a sum for a 20-year-old.
The valuation remains in place though with Frankfurt recently having a few behind the scenes changes.
Markus Krosche, director of football and a hard negotiator, has left his position which could affect their transfer plans.
With Uzun's place in the team in doubt, a move in 2027 cannot be ruled out and if his situation does not improve, Frankfurt will find it harder to keep their asking price at €60m.
For Arsenal, his attacking ability could be interesting but he will need to prove that he can do his defensive duties.
The report highlighted that Mikel Arteta will expect a forward to contribute without the ball, so Uzun will have to do some more before he can meet Arsenal's demands.
