According to a report by BBC Sport on Sunday, November 8, 2026, Manchester United secured a 1-0 victory over Aston Villa at Villa Park in the Women's Super League, with substitute Julia Zigiotti Olme scoring the decisive goal in the second half.
The Swedish midfielder came off the bench to make the difference for Marc Skinner's side, who extended their unbeaten run in the league to seven matches with an important away victory. Manchester United dominated the opening exchanges and created several opportunities but struggled to convert their possession into goals.
Aston Villa goalkeeper Akane Okuma was particularly impressive during the first half, producing five saves to prevent the visitors from taking the lead. Hinata Miyazawa came closest to breaking the deadlock when her effort from approximately 20 yards struck the crossbar, leaving United frustrated after their promising attacking performance.
Villa struggled to threaten the visitors during the opening period, managing their first attempt on goal in the 45th minute through Lucia Kendall. However, Manchester United goalkeeper Phallon Tullis-Joyce comfortably dealt with Kendall's effort to ensure the teams went into the half-time break level at 0-0.
Aston Villa improved after the restart and began creating more problems for the visitors as they searched for an opening goal. Tullis-Joyce was required to make important interventions, producing impressive saves to deny Amalie Vangsgaard and Oriane Jean-Francois as the hosts increased their attacking pressure.
Manchester United eventually found the breakthrough in the 72nd minute through Zigiotti Olme. The midfielder, who started the match on the bench, produced an excellent header after receiving a cross from fellow Swedish international Hanna Lundkvist.
The goal came following good attacking work from Andrea Medina, who also entered the match as a substitute. Medina carried the ball forward and attracted the attention of two Aston Villa players before releasing it to Lundkvist.
The defender subsequently delivered a deep cross into the penalty area, where Zigiotti Olme found space to head the ball into the net without facing a challenge. United maintained their advantage for the remaining minutes to secure all three points.
