Tottenham star Xavi Simons has taken to social media to make it clear what he thinks about Jayden Bogle not being sent off for his challenge on Mathys Tel in the first half at Elland Road.
While Leeds emerged 1-0 winners due to a strike from Noah Okafor, the home side were lucky not to be reduced to 10 men in the first half.
Bogle clumsily tried to win the ball from Tel in the 34th minute and caught the Tottenham Hotspur man on his ankle with his studs, with the ball being nowhere near.
Despite watching a lot of replays from various angles for four minutes, VAR, Tony Harrington, decided that the challenge did not meet the threshold for him to intervene.

Harrington suggested that while the tackle from the Leeds right-back was reckless, he opined that there was not enough force to warrant a sending off.
That meant that Bogle escaped without even a booking for his tackle, even though Tel was unable to continue in the game.
Tottenham’s injured star, Xavi Simons, has now compared the Leeds man’s challenge to a very similar one he made on Virgil van Dijk last season, which ended in his sending off.

Xavi raked his studs high down the back of Van Dijk’s calf, and while the referee initially produced a yellow, he changed it to a red after being asked to rewatch the incident by VAR.

What makes the Tottenham midfielder’s point even more hard-hitting is that Brooks was also the referee in charge of Spurs’ clash against Liverpool last season, while Harrington was also in charge of VAR.
While Harrington clearly decided that the Spurs midfielder’s challenge last season warranted Brooks rewatching the incident, for some strange reason, he did not feel the same about Bogle’s challenge yesterday.
When the same official makes completely different calls for very similar incidents, it is clear that there is a huge lack of consistency with the way red card decisions are made.
