Arsenal And Manchester United Battle for €50m Como Defender

According to a report by Football London on Wednesday October 28, 2026, the January transfer window is upon us, and reports indicate that Arsenal and Manchester United are in a bidding war to acquire Jacobo Ramon, a central defender for Como who has garnered attention due to his outstanding play in Italy.

In pursuit of a second Premier League crown and atonement for last season's crushing Champions League final loss to Paris Saint-Germain, Mikel Arteta is intent on bolstering Arsenal's roster.

Even though they have one of England's best teams, Arteta thinks they still need to add more players. Arsenal needs enough depth, especially in defense, to be consistent in both domestic and European competitions.

Manchester United and Arsenal are both reportedly interested in signing Ramon, a gifted defender, as reported by Tuttomercatoweb. It has been reported that Chelsea have also been keeping tabs on his development.

The 21-year-old has become an integral part of Cesc Fabregas's squad since joining Como from Real Madrid. Thanks to his play, he is now widely considered one of the best young defenders in Italy.

Ramon was a key cog in Como's remarkable 2018–19 campaign, which ended with the club qualifying for the Champions League. Consequently, numerous Premier League clubs that are looking to bolster their defenses have taken notice of his development.

Nevertheless, Real Madrid may have a major say in the defender's contractual status. In his transfer deal with Como, the Spanish giants threw in a buyback clause and a sizable sell-on provision.

According to reports, Madrid can supposedly re-sign Ramon for the summers of 2027 and 2028 at the Santiago Bernabeu thanks to the agreement. As a result of this arrangement, transfer negotiations between Arsenal and Manchester United may be more difficult.

Since the defender has a contract with the Italian club until 2030, Como is not in any hurry to sell him due to financial concerns. With his long-term commitment, they will be in a stronger position to negotiate with interested clubs.

As a result of his stellar play, Ramon's market value has allegedly increased to the range of €45 million and €50 million. It would be a huge investment to sign him, even though Arsenal and Manchester United could afford it.

But a transfer is not a sure thing. Ramon has previously stated that he is content with his life at Como and has not been thinking about his future plans.

Consequently, Arsenal needs to compete with Chelsea and Manchester United while also taking Real Madrid's contractual advantages into account.

As the Gunners work on their defensive recruiting strategies, it is unclear whether they will make a serious push for Ramon in January.
