According to a report from Daily Post Nigeria, on Sunday November 01, 2026, Taiwo Awoniyi has spoken of his satisfaction after scoring his first Premier League goal for Coventry City, helping the team secure a 3-1 victory over Sunderland at the CBS Arena.
The Nigerian forward struck Coventry’s second goal eight minutes before half-time.
He pressed Sunderland defender Luke O’Nien, won the ball and quickly turned the opportunity into a goal, sending his finish past goalkeeper Robin Roefs. The goal capped an effective first-half display from the hosts and gave them greater control of the match.
Speaking after the game, Awoniyi focused on the team’s result rather than his personal milestone. He praised Coventry’s collective effort and said the players carried out their plan from the opening stages.
“The most important thing is the three points. I think the team played well together from the outset, and the game plan worked,” he told the Premier League website.
Awoniyi’s goal marked an important moment in his time with Coventry, while the win added to the side’s points tally.
Frank Lampard’s team have collected nine points from their first nine league matches. They will look to build on the Sunderland result when they travel to face Everton in their next league fixture.
