According to a report by BBC Sport on Saturday, October 31, 2026, Brighton secured an impressive 1-0 victory over Manchester City at the Etihad Stadium, handing the hosts a disappointing defeat in their latest Premier League encounter. Yasin Ayari scored the decisive goal in the first half to give the visitors all three points.
Brighton took an early lead in the 11th minute after Maxim De Cuyper created an opportunity for Ayari. Instead of attempting a shot himself, De Cuyper delivered a pass to the midfielder, who calmly placed the ball into the bottom-right corner, leaving Manchester City goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma unable to make a save.
Manchester City immediately searched for an equaliser and created several promising opportunities. Iliman Ndiaye nearly levelled the score in the 22nd minute after connecting with Elliot Anderson's lofted delivery, but his header went narrowly wide. Ndiaye threatened again three minutes later, forcing Brighton goalkeeper Bart Verbruggen to produce an important save.
Erling Haaland struggled to find opportunities against Brighton's well-organised defence, with one of his attempts blocked inside the penalty area. Josko Gvardiol also failed to convert a corner-kick opportunity as City continued searching for a breakthrough before halftime.
Following the restart, Brighton maintained their attacking threat. De Cuyper missed a promising chance before testing Donnarumma with a header in the 54th minute. However, Manchester City gradually increased their pressure in an attempt to rescue the match.
Verbruggen played a crucial role in protecting Brighton's advantage. He produced an excellent save to deny Ndiaye in the 52nd minute, with the ball subsequently striking the post. The goalkeeper also prevented Matheus Nunes and Haaland from finding the net during another dangerous attacking sequence.
Manchester City introduced Rayan Cherki, Nico O'Reilly and Phil Foden as they searched for an equaliser. Despite the changes, Brighton remained defensively disciplined. Abdukodir Khusanov and O'Reilly came close to scoring during the closing stages, but Verbruggen continued to deliver an outstanding performance.
Despite five minutes of additional time, City could not find a way past Brighton's defence. Referee Craig Pawson eventually brought the encounter to an end, confirming a valuable victory for Brighton and another disappointing result for Manchester City.
