We racked up our 10th clean sheet of the season on Saturday, and it proved decisive in earning all three points against Hull City.
On an afternoon when we needed to be patient and wait for the breakthrough, Martin Odegaard’s goal was the difference between the sides, thanks to yet another shut out from our imperious defence.
It was our fourth consecutive Premier League clean sheet, and 10th in all so far this campaign, from 17 games in all competitions.
So it’s no surprise that Gabriel was a happy man at full-time.
“Yes, we are really happy,” he said. “The performance is the most important [thing], we got the three points were very solid at the back. I think we had a good game, so we’re really happy to take the three points.
“The message [at half-time] was we needed to keep pushing because we know we will create chances to score. I think the second half we did brilliantly.”
We had the best defensive record in the league last season, and we are on track to repeat that this year, having conceded only five times from our first 10 Premier League games.
“We talked a lot about this,” the Brazilian centre back added. “If we don't concede goals, we have a big chance to win games. We are really happy to have another clean sheet.
“Like I said, when we have a strong team, a strong defence, we don't concede goals. I think this season, how many is that? Ten clean sheets in the whole competition? This is our standard. We need to keep winning.”
