Gavin Hunt in Tears: Disaster Hits Stellenbosch Ahead of Amakhosi/AmaZulu Clash as Key Stars Ruined

Gavin Hunt Delivers Stellenbosch Injury Update Ahead of Crucial AmaZulu Carling Knockout Clash

Stellenbosch FC head coach Gavin Hunt has provided an important injury update ahead of his side's Carling Knockout Cup quarter-final encounter against AmaZulu FC, confirming that although some players are expected to return, the club will still be without a few key members of the squad.

The two teams are preparing for an important showdown on Sunday evening, with a place in the semi-finals at stake. For Stellenbosch, the encounter represents another opportunity to keep their hopes of winning silverware alive, but Hunt knows that his team's preparations have been affected by injury concerns.

Speaking ahead of the match, Hunt revealed that the club is gradually recovering some players, although Mosa Lebusa and Genino Palace remain unavailable after failing to feature recently.

"We are getting one or two back, but there is still one or two out of the picture still, like [Mosa] Lebusa; he hasn't played, and Genino Palace hasn't played, so they won't be available on the weekend," Hunt explained.

The update provides some encouragement for Stellenbosch supporters, particularly with the possibility of welcoming certain players back into contention. However, the continued absence of Lebusa and Palace means the technical team will have to carefully consider its available options when selecting the matchday squad.

Lebusa's absence is particularly worth monitoring, given the experience he can bring to the defensive department. His unavailability means Stellenbosch will need other defenders to maintain concentration, organisation and discipline against an AmaZulu side that will also be determined to progress in the competition.

Palace's continued absence is another setback for Hunt, who would naturally prefer to have his full squad available for such an important cup fixture.

Nevertheless, Stellenbosch cannot afford to allow their injury situation to become an excuse. Cup football often demands resilience, tactical discipline and the ability to make the most of available resources.

AmaZulu will present a serious challenge, especially with both sides understanding the importance of securing a place in the last four. The pressure will be on the players to deliver when it matters most.

For Hunt, the immediate priority will be getting the available players ready, making the right tactical decisions and ensuring his team approaches the quarter-final with the necessary intensity.

With silverware still within reach, Stellenbosch will be hoping that the returning players can provide a timely boost as they prepare for Sunday's decisive encounter.

Additional team news: Hunt also revealed that Bafana Mthethwa and Lateef Kazeem have returned to training and could provide additional squad depth, although they may not yet be ready to start. Kazeem previously impressed by creating two goals on his Stellenbosch debut.

The quarter-final will take place at Danie Craven Stadium, with kick-off scheduled for 18:00 on Sunday. AmaZulu coach Arthur Zwane has also warned that his team expects a difficult tactical battle against Hunt's side.
