Orlando Pirates Coach Sends Clear Message About Sebastian Pedersen’s Future

Orlando Pirates head coach Abdeslam Ouaddou has provided an encouraging update on Sebastian Pedersen, suggesting that the Norwegian striker is getting closer to becoming a regular starter at the club.

Pedersen joined the Buccaneers from Norway and arrived at a team with several established attacking options. Although his playing time has been limited since his arrival, the forward has reportedly impressed the technical team through his commitment and performances in training.

Ouaddou has made it clear that the striker's attitude and integration into the squad are not concerns. Instead, the coaching staff are focused on finding the right time to give him a bigger role.

“There’s no issues with Sebastian, I’m happy with his commitment, I’m happy about his integration, we are doing everything to help him,” the Pirates coach explained.

However, Pedersen faces strong competition for a place in the starting line-up. Yanela Mbuthuma, Evidence Makgopa and Boitumelo Radiopane are among the attacking options available to Ouaddou, meaning the Norwegian will need to take advantage of his opportunities.

The coach indicated that Pedersen is making encouraging progress during training and is approaching the point where he could receive more minutes on the pitch.

“He’s close. What I’m seeing in training, he’s doing great things,” Ouaddou said.

Despite his confidence in the striker, Ouaddou stressed that the club does not want to rush his development or expose him to unnecessary physical demands.

“I don’t want to burn the player, so we have to analyse the right moment to bring him in, to help the team,” he added.

Another factor is Johannesburg's high altitude, which can make physical adaptation challenging for players arriving from different environments. The club must therefore consider Pedersen's fitness, adjustment to the conditions and readiness to handle extended playing time.

For now, the coach's comments suggest that limited appearances should not automatically be viewed as a lack of confidence in the striker. Pirates appear determined to prepare Pedersen properly before increasing his responsibilities, with supporters waiting to see when he will get a bigger opportunity to prove himself.
