Orlando Pirates head coach Abdeslam Ouaddou has addressed reports surrounding assistant coach Mandla Ncikazi’s future at the club, amid speculation about a possible departure and an alleged disagreement between the two coaches.
The reports have attracted attention among Pirates supporters, particularly because Ncikazi has played an important role within the club’s technical team. Questions about his position have also raised concerns about whether changes could be coming behind the scenes at the Soweto giants.
Ouaddou Dismisses Ncikazi Fallout Reports
Ouaddou has rejected speculation of a breakdown in his relationship with Ncikazi, insisting that everything remains fine within the Orlando Pirates camp.
The Moroccan coach addressed the reports after questions emerged about Ncikazi’s absence from the technical bench and claims of tension between the two men. The rumours suggested that their working relationship had deteriorated, raising questions about the assistant coach’s future at the Soweto club.
However, Ouaddou made it clear that Ncikazi’s health was the immediate concern, explaining that his colleague had undergone surgery and was recovering.
“The club issued a statement about that; he had surgery, so now he’s recovering. I wish him all the best; that’s all I can say,” Ouaddou said, according to iDiski Times.
The Pirates head coach also expressed frustration with reports suggesting there were problems behind the scenes.
“We read many things about that; everything is okay in the club, the environment is okay, so people must not start to create any problem,” he added.
Ouaddou’s comments came amid growing speculation about Ncikazi’s future, with the assistant coach having been linked to a possible return to Golden Arrows, where he previously worked as head coach.
Ncikazi has been part of the Pirates technical team since 2021 and has contributed to the club’s success across several competitions. His experience in South African football has made him an important figure within the coaching setup.
However, Orlando Pirates subsequently confirmed Ncikazi’s departure, explaining that he wanted to pursue a head coaching opportunity. Chairman Dr Irvin Khoza thanked him for his contribution and wished him success in his next role.
While Ouaddou dismissed claims of a personal fallout, Ncikazi’s departure marks the end of his time with the Buccaneers as he prepares for the next stage of his coaching career.
