Nkosinathi Sibisi Warns New Orlando Pirates Players to Meet Abdeslam Ouaddou’s High Standards
Orlando Pirates captain Nkosinathi Sibisi has sent a clear message to the club’s new arrivals, insisting that they must quickly adapt to head coach Abdeslam Ouaddou’s demanding standards as the Buccaneers prepare for Saturday’s Soweto Derby against Kaizer Chiefs.
Sibisi explained that Ouaddou expects nothing less than excellence from his players, regardless of the result. The Pirates captain believes that while newcomers may need time to understand the coach’s philosophy, they must embrace his expectations and work towards improving their performances.
According to Sibisi, the Moroccan coach is a straight talker who is never afraid to criticise his team when he believes they could have performed better. Even convincing victories do not always satisfy Ouaddou if his players fail to take advantage of their scoring opportunities.
“He doesn’t demand just good, he demands excellence,” Sibisi explained, highlighting the mentality the coach wants to establish at the club.
The defender added that players who have worked with Ouaddou for longer periods already understand his methods, while new arrivals are still adjusting to his approach. However, he emphasised that the squad must accept criticism positively and use it as motivation to improve.
These remarks follow Ouaddou’s frustration after Pirates defeated Milford FC 3-0 in the Carling Knockout Cup earlier this week. Despite securing a comfortable victory, the coach was reportedly unhappy with the number of chances his team failed to convert.
Ouaddou believes that representing a club of Pirates’ stature comes with significant responsibilities, and players must demonstrate their quality immediately rather than expect special treatment.
With the Soweto Derby approaching, Sibisi’s comments underline the importance of discipline, consistency and adaptability within the squad. The Buccaneers face a major challenge against their traditional rivals, and the captain believes everyone must understand what is required to compete at the highest level.
For Pirates, securing victories remains important, but Ouaddou’s philosophy demands even more. The players must turn their opportunities into goals and maintain high standards throughout the campaign.
