South African attackers Devin Titus and Tshegofatso Mabasa endured a difficult evening in Morocco after their club, Maghreb Fes, suffered a narrow 1-0 defeat against Wydad Sportive Témara in the Botola Pro on Sunday.
The two South Africans were unable to help their team avoid defeat, with Maghreb Fes struggling to find an equaliser after conceding an early goal.
Titus started the match and played 76 minutes before being substituted. Mabasa also started but was taken off at half-time as the technical team looked to make changes going into the second half. However, the substitutions were not enough to help Maghreb Fes get back into the match.
The defeat was another disappointing result for the Moroccan side, who came into the fixture with confidence after securing qualification for the CAF Champions League group stages.
Maghreb Fes had recently progressed past ASEC Mimosas with a 2-1 aggregate victory in the second round of qualifying, booking their place among the teams competing in the continental competition.
However, their domestic form has become a concern after failing to win any of their last three matches in all competitions.
Wydad Sportive Témara made a strong start to Sunday's encounter and took the lead in the 13th minute through Zakaria Oulbenna. His goal proved to be the difference between the two teams as Maghreb Fes failed to find a response for the remainder of the match.
The result also affected Maghreb Fes' position on the Botola Pro standings. They dropped to seventh place with eight points from six matches, leaving them five points behind league leaders KACM.
For Titus and Mabasa, the focus will now be on helping their team return to winning ways and improve their performances in the coming fixtures.
Maghreb Fes will have an opportunity to respond when they welcome Fath Union Sport on Saturday, 7 November. The match will be important for the club as they look to end their recent run without a victory and collect valuable points in the league.
After making progress in their CAF Champions League campaign, the Moroccan champions will be hoping to carry that success into their domestic matches. Titus and Mabasa will also be looking to make a bigger contribution as Maghreb Fes attempt to get their season back on track.
