Swallows Legend Sekano Backs Mokoena’s Club Transformation Plan

Moroka Swallows legend Steve Sekano has thrown his support behind Walter Mokoena's ambitious vision of transforming the Dube Birds into a major sporting institution, with aspirations of reaching the level of internationally recognised clubs such as FC Barcelona and Al Ahly SC.

Mokoena's vision involves expanding Moroka Swallows beyond football by introducing multiple sporting codes under the club's famous name. The proposal is aimed at building a broader sporting organisation that can compete across different disciplines while strengthening the club's identity and commercial appeal.

Sekano, who remains an important figure in the history of Moroka Swallows, believes the vision deserves serious consideration. His endorsement is particularly significant given his connection to the club and its rich football heritage.

The idea of establishing several sporting departments within one organisation is not entirely new in world sports. Clubs such as FC Barcelona have successfully developed teams across different disciplines, including basketball, handball, futsal and other sports. Similarly, Egyptian giants Al Ahly have built a large sporting structure that extends far beyond their football team.

These organisations have demonstrated how a strong sporting identity can be developed into a wider institution capable of attracting supporters, sponsors and talented athletes from different backgrounds.

For Moroka Swallows, adopting a similar model could open new opportunities to rebuild the club's reputation and create additional platforms for sporting development in South Africa.

The Dube Birds are one of the country's historic football institutions, with a passionate following and a proud tradition in South African football. However, the club has faced difficult periods in recent years, making discussions about its long-term future particularly important.

Expanding into other sporting codes could provide opportunities to attract new partnerships, develop young talent and create additional revenue streams.

Nevertheless, turning such an ambitious proposal into reality would require proper planning, financial investment, strong administration and sustainable structures.

With Steve Sekano now publicly backing Mokoena's vision, the proposal has received encouragement from someone closely associated with the club's history.

Moroka Swallows supporters will undoubtedly be interested to see whether this ambitious plan can become the foundation for a new chapter in the history of the famous Dube Birds.
