Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirates recorded impressive victories in the latest round of DStv Diski Challenge fixtures, while Mamelodi Sundowns were forced to settle for a draw against Polokwane City.
Chiefs continued their perfect start to the campaign with a 2-0 victory over Siwelele FC, despite having to complete the encounter with 10 players. The result allowed the young Amakhosi side to maintain their 100 per cent winning record and collect another valuable three points.
Their performance was particularly encouraging because they managed to secure the victory despite being reduced to 10 men. Maintaining their advantage under those circumstances demonstrated the team's determination to protect its lead and continue its strong run in the competition.
Orlando Pirates also enjoyed an outstanding weekend, delivering one of the most convincing performances of the round with a 5-0 demolition of Sekhukhune United. The result highlighted the attacking quality of the Buccaneers' development side, which produced five goals without conceding.
The emphatic victory will provide Pirates with additional confidence as they continue their campaign. It also ensured that the Soweto giants ended the weekend among the biggest winners in the competition.
However, Mamelodi Sundowns experienced a different outcome after playing out a 1-1 draw against Polokwane City. Unlike Chiefs and Pirates, the Brazilians were unable to secure all three points, leaving them with a single point from the encounter.
The result made the weekend particularly notable, with two of South Africa's biggest football clubs celebrating victories while Sundowns dropped points.
Chiefs' unbeaten winning start, Pirates' five-goal performance and Sundowns' draw provided the major talking points from the latest round of the DStv Diski Challenge.
