Chloorkop In Crisis: Mass Exodus Looms At Sundowns Following Disastrous CAF Champions League Exit

Mass Exodus At Sundowns? January Loan Moves Could Follow Shock CAF Exit

The suggestion of a possible January reshuffle comes at a difficult moment for head coach Miguel Cardoso, whose team were expected to progress comfortably after securing a goalless draw in the first leg in Angola.

Instead, Sundowns were unable to protect their advantage at home. Tashreeq Matthews opened the scoring in the 11th minute, but Mabululu struck shortly after half-time to level the match. Despite creating several opportunities to regain the lead, the Brazilians could not find the decisive goal.

The elimination has raised questions about the squad's balance, particularly the number of players competing for limited opportunities in a team packed with quality and depth.

According to the former Sundowns defender cited in the report, the club could consider allowing some fringe players to leave on loan when the January window opens. Such moves would give players who are struggling for regular minutes an opportunity to gain valuable match experience elsewhere.

Importantly, this remains a possibility rather than a confirmed transfer plan. Sundowns have not officially announced a mass departure or identified players who will be made available.

Nevertheless, the club's recent transfer activity shows that loan arrangements have been part of its approach to managing a large squad. Players who cannot secure regular football may benefit from temporary moves, while Sundowns could create more room for those who remain central to the coach's plans.

The situation also presents a challenge for Cardoso. With the Champions League campaign over, the Portuguese coach must ensure that his remaining squad stays motivated and focused on domestic responsibilities.

Sundowns still have important objectives to pursue in South African football, including the Betway Premiership title and domestic cup competitions. The absence of continental commitments could also give the technical team more time to work on consistency, tactical organisation and squad management.

For the players on the fringes, the next two months could be particularly important. Those who want more regular football will need to make the most of every opportunity before the transfer window opens.

A January loan exodus would not necessarily represent a crisis at Chloorkop. It could instead be a practical decision to help players develop while ensuring the squad remains competitive.

However, the bigger question is whether Sundowns will respond to their continental disappointment with a few carefully considered departures or a more significant restructuring.
