Golden Arrows have announced their starting line-up for their Carling Knockout quarter-final encounter against Mamelodi Sundowns, with head coach Mandla Ncikazi naming a strong side for the important cup fixture.
The Durban-based outfit will be looking to secure a place in the semi-finals, but they face a difficult challenge against a Sundowns side that has consistently competed for major honours in South African football.
Ncikazi has selected Msibi in goal, with Jiyane, Msomi, Agnikoi and Sithole forming the defensive options in front of him.
In midfield, Shezi, Maluleke and Maxwele have been handed starting positions, while Gasa and Zwane will provide attacking support to striker Junior Dion.
The starting line-up suggests that Arrows will be looking to combine their defensive organisation with enough attacking movement to trouble the Tshwane giants.
Golden Arrows starting XI:
Msibi, Jiyane, Msomi, Agnikoi, Sithole, Shezi, Maluleke, Maxwele, Gasa, Zwane and Dion.
Substitutes:
Mbanjwa, Mabaso, Barry, Nguse, Khumalo, Van Neel, Karelse, Cele and Moli.
One of the interesting selections is the inclusion of Junior Dion as the main attacking option. The striker will be expected to lead the line and provide a threat in the final third, particularly when Arrows manage to win possession and launch forward.
Zwane and Gasa will also have important responsibilities in supporting the attack and creating opportunities for their teammates.
The announcement comes after Ncikazi openly admitted that his biggest concern was his team's lack of creativity and goals in the opposition's half.
The Golden Arrows coach recently expressed frustration with the team's attacking output, suggesting that improvements in the final third would be necessary if they wanted to compete effectively against Sundowns.
"But I'm just concerned about us in the attacking third. I'm concerned about us being so less creative in the opponents' half, scoring so much less goals," Ncikazi said.
His comments place additional attention on the attacking players selected for this encounter.
Arrows cannot afford to focus entirely on defending if they hope to eliminate Sundowns. They will need to make their attacking opportunities count, especially against opponents who are capable of controlling possession for long periods.
Meanwhile, Sundowns will be looking to use their experience and quality to secure progression to the next round.
For Arrows, reaching the semi-finals would represent an important achievement and provide an opportunity to continue their pursuit of the Carling Knockout trophy.
Ncikazi has now made his selection, and the responsibility rests with the players to deliver on the pitch.
With a place in the last four at stake, the encounter presents Golden Arrows with an opportunity to show whether they can turn their attacking concerns into a stronger performance against one of the country's leading clubs.
