Ncikazi Reveals Why Dumsani Msibi Has Become Golden Arrows’ First-Choice Goalkeeper Since His Return

JOHANNESBURG, SOUTH AFRICA — 3 NOVEMBER 2026

Golden Arrows head coach Mandla Ncikazi has brought renewed attention to the goalkeeping department at Abafana Bes’thende following his return to the KwaZulu-Natal outfit, with Dumsani Msibi continuing to occupy the number one position.

The experienced tactician returned to Golden Arrows in October after ending his five-year association with Orlando Pirates, replacing Pitso Dladla, who departed following a disappointing run of results.

Since his return, Ncikazi has had to make important decisions as he works towards rebuilding the team and restoring the competitive identity that previously made Arrows one of the exciting sides in South African football.

One of the notable selection decisions has been his continued use of Msibi between the goalposts.

The goalkeeper has featured in the matches under Ncikazi, including the Carling Knockout quarter-final against Mamelodi Sundowns at Loftus Versfeld Stadium on Tuesday, 3 November.

Although Arrows suffered a narrow 1-0 defeat, Msibi remained an important part of the team's defensive effort against the defending league champions.

Sundowns created several opportunities throughout the encounter, but Arrows managed to remain competitive for long periods before Iqraam Rayners eventually broke the deadlock in the 69th minute.

Ncikazi's preference for Msibi comes at a crucial period for the club, particularly as the coach attempts to establish stability following changes in the technical team.

The goalkeeper's continued involvement also highlights the importance of consistency as Arrows seek to improve their performances in the Betway Premiership.

Ncikazi previously guided Golden Arrows to a historic fourth-place finish during the 2020/21 campaign, and supporters will be hoping his return can inspire another successful period.

His immediate challenge, however, remains improving the team's overall performances, particularly in the attacking department, where he has already identified a lack of creativity and goal-scoring efficiency.

Arrows will now have to regroup after their cup elimination and turn their attention towards their league campaign.

For Msibi, maintaining his position will depend on continuing to deliver convincing performances as competition for places remains important.
