Namibian striker Peter Shalulile has made an impressive start to life at Tanzanian giants Young Africans (Yanga), with his early performances already drawing comparisons with former club favourite Fiston Mayele.
The former Mamelodi Sundowns forward has scored six goals in nine league appearances since joining Yanga, placing him second on the Tanzanian Premier League scoring charts.
Shalulile's impressive goal-scoring record has quickly attracted attention, with his performances reminding supporters of Mayele, who enjoyed a prolific spell at the club before his departure.
Mayele established himself as one of Yanga's most influential attacking players, scoring 17 goals in 17 appearances during the 2021/22 campaign before taking his tally to 18 goals in just 13 matches in the 2022/23 season.
Other forwards who have represented Yanga in recent seasons have also had varying degrees of success. Prince Dube, for instance, endured a difficult start during the 2024/25 campaign, going nine league matches without finding the back of the net before eventually announcing himself with a hat-trick.
Meanwhile, Tanzanian forward Clement Mzize managed five goals in 20 appearances during the 2022/23 season before significantly improving his output to 14 goals the following campaign.
Shalulile, however, appears to have settled into his new environment almost immediately, registering six goals in his first nine league outings without requiring an extended adaptation period.
His impressive start has raised expectations among Yanga supporters, who will be hoping the experienced Namibian international can maintain his scoring form and potentially deliver numbers comparable to those achieved by Mayele.
With the season still progressing, Shalulile has an opportunity to strengthen his position as one of the leading attacking figures in Tanzanian football.
