Kaizer Chiefs new signing Elias Mokwana has inherited the number 14 jersey at Naturena, taking over a shirt previously associated with one of the club's most recognisable former players, Simphiwe Tshabalala.
The 27-year-old winger was confirmed as the latest addition to the Amakhosi squad on Wednesday, November 4, 2026, following his return to South African football after spells in Tunisia and Saudi Arabia.
His decision to wear the number 14 shirt has created an interesting connection with Tshabalala, who became one of the most celebrated players in Chiefs' history during his time with the Soweto giants.
Tshabalala enjoyed a memorable career at Naturena, earning recognition for his performances and becoming a familiar figure among the club's supporters. He also represented South Africa internationally, scoring the opening goal at the 2010 FIFA World Cup against Mexico.
Mokwana will now have the opportunity to create his own legacy while wearing the same number previously associated with the former Bafana Bafana midfielder.
The former Sekhukhune United attacker arrives at Chiefs with valuable international experience after representing Espérance de Tunis and spending the 2025/26 campaign on loan at Saudi Arabian club Al Hazem.
He contributed to Espérance's domestic success during his time in Tunisia before gaining further experience in the Saudi Pro League.
Mokwana has also represented Bafana Bafana and was part of South Africa's squad at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations.
The winger has previously explained that joining Chiefs fulfilled a childhood ambition, having supported the club while growing up.
Supporters will now be hoping he can make a strong impression and bring his own memorable moments to the famous number 14 shirt.
