Former Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirates Star Returns to South Africa

Former Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirates winger William Twala is reportedly back in South Africa and looking for a new club. The 36-year-old is understood to be exploring options in the local game after spending several years playing outside the country.

Twala was born in Soweto and has played in the Betway Premiership for several clubs, including Orlando Pirates, Kaizer Chiefs, Chippa United, Golden Arrows and Maritzburg United. His spells at Chiefs and Pirates are among the best-known parts of his career, as he experienced the pressure and expectations that come with representing the two most widely supported clubs in the country.

After leaving South Africa, he played for Erbil SC in Iraq and Chittagong Abahani in Bangladesh, and also had a stint in India. Those moves gave him experience in very different football environments and allowed him to keep his professional career going beyond the local game.

Now that he is home, the former Bafana Bafana international is reportedly keen to find a club where he can continue playing at a competitive level. At 36, his experience could be his biggest selling point. Clubs looking for attacking depth may value a player who knows the demands of South African football and can bring that knowledge into the dressing room.

Twala has also shown that he is open-minded about where he plays. In an earlier interview, he said he would consider offers from both the top flight and the Motsepe Foundation Championship. For now, his main aim is to find the right environment to continue his career.

No destination has been confirmed, and no club has announced an agreement with him. His availability could still be of interest to clubs in the PSL and the lower divisions. Whether he returns to the Betway Premiership remains to be seen, but his arrival back on the local market has put his name in the transfer conversation again. The coming weeks should give a clearer idea of where the former Chiefs and Pirates attacker will play next.
