Former Mamelodi Sundowns star Peter Ndlovu has enjoyed a winning start to his coaching career after guiding Zimbabwean champions Scottland FC to victory in his first match in charge.
The former Zimbabwe international was recently appointed as the replacement for Norman Mapeza, who left his position following the club's elimination from the CAF Champions League last weekend.
Ndlovu has taken over on an interim basis and was immediately given the opportunity to lead the team in their domestic campaign. His first assignment ended positively as Scottland secured a 1-0 victory over CAPS United on Thursday.
Emmanuel Jalai scored the only goal of the encounter, giving Ndlovu an important victory in his first match as a first-team coach.
Although the result was not achieved through a dominant performance, the former Sundowns star was pleased with the determination and unity shown by his players throughout the match.
Speaking after the game, Ndlovu expressed his happiness at securing maximum points in his first appearance in the technical area.
"I am happy to have won at the first time of asking," Ndlovu said, as quoted by Soccer24.
He also praised the attitude and togetherness of his players, explaining that their collective effort was one of the biggest positives he took from the encounter.
"What I am happy about today is, perhaps not the performance itself, but the way these boys were together today, in everything," he added.
Ndlovu admitted that his team spent much of the match under pressure but was pleased with how the players responded to the difficult moments.
"Most of the game we came under pressure," he explained.
The victory will give the former Zimbabwe international confidence as he begins his coaching journey with the reigning Zimbabwean champions.
Ndlovu is widely remembered for his successful playing career, which included a spell at Mamelodi Sundowns. He also represented Zimbabwe at international level and built a reputation as one of the country's notable football figures.
His move into coaching represents another chapter in his football career, and he will now have the responsibility of helping Scottland maintain their competitive position in Zimbabwean football.
Although his appointment is currently on an interim basis, a positive start could strengthen his position and give him an opportunity to demonstrate his abilities in the technical area.
For now, Ndlovu will be pleased with his first victory, while Scottland supporters will be hoping he can maintain the winning momentum in the matches ahead.
