Sundowns Target Two New Signings to Strengthen Their Squad

Mamelodi Sundowns have continued strengthening their squad for the future after securing the signing of highly rated 19-year-old midfielder Lazola Maku, as the Tshwane giants maintain their ambitions of dominating South African football and competing at the highest level in Africa.

The young midfielder officially joined the Brazilians on October 20, 2026, following an impressive period of development that attracted attention from several clubs. His arrival at Chloorkop represents another investment in young talent as Sundowns look to build a squad capable of delivering both immediate success and long-term stability.

Maku's journey to Sundowns has been marked by determination and ambition. After his contract with Siwelele FC came to an end, the midfielder became a free agent and travelled to Austria for trials in an attempt to secure an opportunity in European football. However, his performances at international level eventually opened another important door in his career.

The teenager particularly impressed during the COSAFA Under-20 Youth Championships hosted in Mozambique, where he played an important role in helping South Africa's Amajita secure the regional title. His composure on the ball, tactical awareness, work rate and ability to contribute to the team's overall performance made him one of the promising young players to attract attention during the competition.

Sundowns subsequently moved to secure his services, recognising the potential he could bring to their development programme. The midfielder will now have an opportunity to develop within an environment known for its professional facilities, experienced coaching staff and competitive standards.

However, establishing himself in the first team will not be straightforward. Sundowns boast considerable quality and experience in midfield, meaning Maku will need patience, discipline and consistent performances to earn regular opportunities under head coach Miguel Cardoso.

His signing demonstrates Sundowns' continued commitment to identifying emerging talent while maintaining a competitive squad for domestic and continental competitions. Supporters will now be eager to see how quickly the 19-year-old adapts to life at Chloorkop.
