JUST IN: Kaizer Chiefs land Bafana Bafana star Elias Mokwana as Da Cruz receives major attacking boost
JOHANNESBURG, SOUTH AFRICA — 4 NOVEMBER 2026
Kaizer Chiefs have delivered exciting news to their supporters after officially confirming the signing of Bafana Bafana international Elias Mokwana as head coach Fernando Da Cruz continues strengthening his squad.
The Soweto giants announced on Wednesday that the 27-year-old winger has joined the club, bringing an end to months of speculation surrounding his future. Mokwana returns to South African football after spending the past two seasons gaining experience abroad.
His arrival represents an important addition to the Chiefs attacking department, which has been undergoing changes as Da Cruz looks to build a more dangerous and unpredictable team.
Mokwana, who hails from KwaMhlanga in Mpumalanga, previously established himself as one of the exciting attacking players in the Betway Premiership during his time at Sekhukhune United.
His performances attracted interest from several clubs before he secured a move to Tunisian giants Espérance Sportive de Tunis in August 2024.
During his time in Tunisia, the South African international made an impression, contributing seven goals and four assists in 38 appearances across all competitions. He also experienced domestic success, helping Espérance secure the league and cup double during the 2024/25 campaign.
He subsequently moved to Saudi Arabia, where he spent the 2025/26 season on loan at Al-Hazem. The winger featured in 24 Saudi Pro League matches, continuing his development in another competitive football environment.
However, his time abroad eventually came to an end after his relationship with Espérance was mutually terminated in September 2026, making him available as a free agent.
Chiefs have now taken advantage of the opportunity to bring the experienced attacker back home without paying a transfer fee.
For Da Cruz, Mokwana's arrival could provide an important tactical advantage. His pace, direct running, dribbling ability and versatility in attacking positions offer the coach another option when trying to break down stubborn defensive opponents.
The signing also gives Mokwana an opportunity to revive his international ambitions through consistent performances at Naturena.
Having already represented Bafana Bafana and featured at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations, the winger will be determined to establish himself as an important figure in the national team setup.
Chiefs supporters will undoubtedly be hoping that his experience abroad translates into immediate performances in the gold and black jersey.
With Mokwana now officially part of the Amakhosi family, attention turns to how quickly he can settle into Da Cruz's plans and help the club achieve its ambitions this season.
The message from Naturena is clear: Chiefs are continuing to strengthen their attacking options as they look to compete for silverware.
