"Not fair" - Da Cruz cries foul - Pirates’ goal shouldn’t have stood - player should have seen red

"Fernando Da Cruz, head coach of the Kaizer Chiefs, was very angry with referee Luxolo Badi following Orlando Pirates' 2-1 Soweto Derby victory at FNB Stadium. Da Cruz claimed that the Buccaneers had essentially an extra player on the field. With a "very simple analysis," Da Cruz informed reporters that the match should have been decided in the first half. "For two reasons: first, we should have been up 2-0 or 3-0 due to our lack of efficiency, and second, the Pirates should have played with 12 instead of 11."Two major decisions, the Frenchman said, worked against his team.

He maintained that Yanela Mbuthuma's first goal ought to have been disallowed due to offside. Before halftime, Da Cruz claimed that one of the Buccaneers' players should have received a second yellow and a red card, reducing their roster to ten players. He explained that the team's usual strategy would have been to play 11 versus 10, not 11 versus 11.

Tshepang Moremi scored the game-winning goal in the second half, but Chiefs' Pule Mmodi equalized in the first after Pirates' goalkeeper Sipho Chaine made an unusual mistake. Da Cruz owns up to his team's late collapse, saying that exhaustion and lack of experience cost them in the fourth quarter. "We were exhausted in the last twenty minutes," he admitted. "That is when we lost control of the game."The Chiefs fell 11 points behind the Betway Premiership leaders after Da Cruz suffered his first loss as head coach.Orlando Pirates played with 12 players instead of 11, Cruz cries foul.
