Despite AmaZulu's impressive run of form, head coach Arthur Zwane has labelled his team as underdogs going into Saturday's highly anticipated Durban Derby against Golden Arrows.
In the lead-up to the local derby, Zwane warned that Golden Arrows should not be underestimated, even though AmaZulu would be considered underdogs going into the match.
"We are playing against Arrows, we are underdogs... yes, we are underdogs," Zwane stated emphatically in his pre-match interview, setting the tone for the highly anticipated match.
In light of AmaZulu's stellar recent results, his remarks have garnered a lot of attention. The Durban-based team is riding high heading into the derby after a four-game winning streak, which has inspired confidence among players and raised expectations among fans.
In preparation for what is sure to be a closely contested match, Zwane seems intent on keeping his players grounded and avoiding needless pressure.
Local pride, bragging rights and important league points are on the line in the Durban Derby, making it a historically significant match for both clubs. While AmaZulu have been on a roll as of late, Golden Arrows are still a formidable foe that can cause problems for AmaZulu's neighbours.
Some may see Zwane's choice to make his squad the underdogs as a calculated move to change people's perceptions of them and give them the mentality they need to win.
If AmaZulu want to make it five wins in a row and prove that their recent success isn't a fluke, they'll need to win next Saturday.
In a match that means a lot to fans of both teams, Golden Arrows will be looking to get even with their neighbours and win the match.
The focus has shifted to the derby preparations of both teams, and the question is whether AmaZulu can keep up their current impressive form or if Golden Arrows will be able to stop them.
Zwane may have picked AmaZulu to be the underdog, but after winning their last four games, they'll be brimming with confidence heading into the match.
