Orlando Pirates players Daniel Msendami and Abdoulaye Mariko have encountered an unexpected setback following their loan moves to Marumo Gallants, after failing to complete their registration before the deadline.
The two footballers, who joined Gallants temporarily from the Buccaneers, will now have to wait until the next registration window opens in January before they can become eligible to play for their new club.
The development is a major blow for both players, who were hoping to secure regular playing opportunities and gain valuable experience in the Betway Premiership during their loan spells.
Msendami and Mariko were expected to add depth to Marumo Gallants' squad and provide the technical team with additional options. However, the registration complication means the club will be unable to select either player for competitive matches until the next registration period.
For Gallants, the situation creates an unexpected challenge in their squad planning. The coaching staff will have to rely on their available players while waiting for the two Orlando Pirates loanees to become eligible.
The setback is equally frustrating for Msendami and Mariko, as missing several weeks of competitive football could affect their development and match fitness. Loan moves are generally intended to give players more opportunities to gain experience, improve their performances and prove their value.
Orlando Pirates will also be monitoring the situation, as the club expected both players to benefit from regular football away from Soweto. The Buccaneers have previously used loan arrangements to help players develop, particularly those struggling to secure consistent minutes in the senior team.
With January representing their next opportunity to complete the registration process, Msendami and Mariko will have to remain patient before making their competitive appearances for Marumo Gallants.
In the meantime, Gallants must continue their Betway Premiership campaign without the services of the two new arrivals.
Both players will be hoping to resolve the registration issue in January and make the most of the remaining season once they are cleared to play.
